Colleen Mullin, Professional Pet Caretaker

"We adopted Shotsy from a shelter and on that day, I knew someday I would work with animals. "

Neighborhoods: Prospect Heights, North Slope

About me: I have loved animals for as long as I can remember. Growing up in a suburb of New York City my family always had a dog. My first dog Midnight was a black Lab mix who had an abundance of energy, made everyone smile and brought me so much joy. My father brought Midnight home on Christmas Eve and to this day he was the best gift I have ever received. Next came Shotsy who was a German Shepherd Collie mix who was sweet, calm and seemed to be near whenever you needed her. We adopted Shotsy from a shelter and on that day, I knew someday I would work with animals.

I now have the most beautiful Yellow Lab named Bailey who is known as the mayor of my block. Bailey is a certified trained therapy dog and we have worked as a team for the past seven years visiting children with special needs. While doing this work, I have learned the true meaning of compassion and realized the healing power of an animal.

My career path went in a different direction and after a long hiatus from the corporate world of design and product development I started volunteering at the ASPCA walking dogs and socializing puppies. I also work on a Lost and Found program reuniting lost pets with their families. After being at the shelter I decided to finally follow my passion and now have the honor to be with dogs everyday working for ProspectBArk.

Favorite Dog Breed: Labrador Retrievers, they make everyone smile.

What I'm not walking dogs... I spend time with my husband and teenage daughter. I enjoy taking Bailey to Prospect Park and watching him swim. I love to travel, seek out new restaurants in Brooklyn and be outside as much as possible.
