Every year, the Mayor’s Alliance for NYC’s Animals, along with participating animal rescue organizations throughout the five boros, present the city’s single largest Adoption event in Washinton Square Park. And … it’s tomorrow! Come join us at this year’s Adoptapalooza!

The weather looks beautiful, and there will be over a hundred adoptable cats and dogs, like Monty, pictured to the left. Come for the raffle prizes (we added something to the mix too!), the entertainment, the sheer fun of being in the park on a sunny day with tons of animals!

If you adopt a cat or dog from a rescue or shelter, pB will provide you with a free month of dog walks or $100 of free cat sitting service. It’s a big deal taking in a new family member, and it can be overwhelming at times. Let our expertise help you through this time as you and your new pet adjust.

NEWS FLASH! “MamaBear” is in a safe, warm place tonight! When our client Elizabeth of PLG reached out for help this afternoon, ProspectBArk dispatched an APB to our list of over 400 clients, walkers and friends. Within a few hours, over fifty emails and calls came flooding in to support Elizabeth and the poor female pit she was sitting by in the Parade Grounds of Prospect Park. By 5:30 pm, our network of caring animal lovers had found a place to bring her for the night.

She is now in the loving care of Animal Haven, a Manhattan-based nonprofit animal rescue which places abandoned cats and dogs from all over the tri-state area. If you or anyone you know has room in their home and heart for a loveable, non-aggressive, young pit, please refer them to Animal Haven.

I’ll post an update on Mama Bear’s condition tomorrow.

Mochi was one of our first clients in Lefferts Gardens and she remains the littlest, most affectionate chihuahua we have ever met. She lived with her mom, Katie, on Winthrop street for a good stretch (she is 5 1/2 years old), but now they have moved into a new place. Katie works over 60 hours a week, leaving Mochi home alone most of the time. With tremendous sadness, Katie is looking for a loving home where Mochi can be held, played with and snuggled.

As her dog walker, I can tell you that this is one easy and affectionate pup. She does not yip (!), does not nip, and she loves to sit in your lap. Mochi is up to date on her shots, healthy, spayed and friendly toward small animals and calm children. Rambunctious kids, hyper puppies and the like make her nervous, so she wouldn’t do well in a house with them. I cannot bear the thought of Mochi sitting home alone, which is why her mom has made this difficult decision, and why ProspectBArk is donating a month of free dog walks to the lucky person who adopts her. MOCHI COMES WITH A MONTH OF FREE DOG WALKS (donated by ProspectBArk) and a huge supply of dog food, wee wee pads, toys, blankets, doggie couture etc. There’s no adoption fee, and nothing to buy for a long time, just a sweet pup waiting by the door when you come home.

What could be more alluring than our pups and kitties in costume?

Absolutely Nothing.

I’m sure the kids look adorable today stumbling around in their plastic and velcro duds, but I’ll take a costumed dog or caped kitty any day of the year!

Ah, sunny days in February. They put a spring in our step, confuse the birds, and give even our reluctant pups a reason to walk (like adorable Muji of Greenpoint, above)! The past few days of unseasonable warmth and sunshine remind us that Old Man Winter is about to exit stage left. We won’t miss him anytime soon!

I had the pleasure of accompanying Frisbee in Windsor Terrace, hot on the trail after Prospect Park’s wildlife. Some of you may recognize Frisbee as our Pet of the Month last May, and here she is again having a blast! oh to be Frisbee.

Here’s Paco lookin’ real sharp in his red harness. As you may have heard, red is the hot new color of Spring ’11, especially in Fort Greene!

…and what’s nice weather if you can’t share it with a friend? Doug sniffs something delicious on the wind. Paco says, “he’s always doing that!” Paco is again sporting his haute couture harness, rivaled now by Doug’s electric blue one! (Doggie fashion duel is ON!)

After the winter we’ve been having, this nice weather is a welcome reprieve. Charlie in Clinton Hill enjoys the sunshine, and on days like this, it is so good to be a dog walker!

Last Wednesday, as we got buried in snow, the Walkers sent photos of their doggies live “from the field”. Most of our pups were dressed in their finest winter outfits. Sam sent this one of Bella, in Prospect Heights, sporting the latest booties!  ——>

<——  Some dogs, like Milo in Park Slope, love the snow! Milo could run and play in the white stuff all day if Natasha let him.

Little Kingston of PLG and Bunky in Greenpoint are not so sure about this “snow” thing.  Are we home yet? says Bunky. Matt just loves Bunky. Look at that face!

The Doggywood Hall of Fame and Red Carpet Reveal last weekend took place during a bright, sunny day. Such good fortune, and it made for some richly saturated photos too! Here are a few of my favorites, but to view all 93 of the best pics, go to the ProspectBArk Photostream.

Next Saturday, Oct. 24th (or rain-date Sunday) local PLG artist Susan Berkowitz is going to put up the Doggywood Hall of Fame, her section of the PLGArts mural devoted exclusively to portraits of local dogs. Everyone is DYING to see who’s lucky dog MUGS will be on that wall! We the People of Prospect-Lefferts-Gardens voted the 15 best of 44 doggy portraits, and these lucky 15 will cheer us on our way to the Q at Prospect Ave, smiling from the mural. Voters were also entered in a drawing to win a doggy bag of treats and prizes, including a surprise gift certificate from us here at ProspectBArk! Kudos to Susan for an exciting and spirited project — we can hardly wait!
